KERRY HARRISON / WHO DARES WINS
I went to Naples for a few days by myself to see what I could find to photograph. No plan, no brief, no ideas,, cheap flight, even cheaper hotel. It was an experiment to trust my instincts and see what happened. I ended up with two very different bodies of work, one more evocative project based on the light and the feeling of the place, and one where I ran after tourists as they got rained on in their quest to see the sights. That one was great fun and I extended it for a few months, finding rain drenched tourists wherever I went.
A cruise ship had just dumped hundreds of American tourists onto the small town near Naples at exactly the same time that the heavens opened. The mood was tense, how dare the elements conspire against them when they only had 2 hours to literally soak up all that Italy offered.
I photographed the scene for a while until the rain stopped and the searing heat returned, leaving this lady stuck in her rain poncho. Her husband tried valiantly to free her but only seemed to make things worse when combined with her frantic arm movements. The more she tried, the longer it took, at one point I wondered if it was performance art.
The full project is here - https://www.kerryharrisonphotography.com/projects/who-dares-wins but I think of all the images, this one was my favourite.
