LPA Futures / Gavin Li / National Theatre / Hamlet
Gavin Li was recently commissioned by the National Theatre to capture images for their promotional material for a new adaptation of Hamlet, aimed at a younger audience.
The brief was to present a contemporary photograph of a child wearing a ghost costume. This was to move away from the more traditional, dark connotations of Hamlet, to something eye-catching and comic which appeals to the targeted audience. For this rendition of Hamlet the target audience is between 8 and 12 years old, so the team were keen to keep that in mind during the shoot.
Gavin says that in order for things to go smoothly, himself and the team conducted a lot of test shoots before the model arrived so that the lighting was just right and that the ghost sheet was draped in a certain way!
The show will touring next year in April 2020 and you can find out more information and buy tickets (as well as see Gavin’s image) on the National Theatre website now!
Amazing work Gavin!
