LPA Futures / Futures 2019/2021 - And the winners are …!!!

After a hugely successful launch party last night (photos to come!) We are extremely delighted to finally reveal the 5 winners of LPA Futures 2019/2021!

The standard and amount of photographers entering was higher than ever this year with nearly 150 entrants. The main prize is 2 years of representation by LPA alongside other prizes worth nearly £20,000 in total to be won courtesy of the competition partners. Have a look in detail at the prizes these wonderful photographers have won here! It was one of the toughest judging nights yet to get to the final selection but the 8 judges whittled it down and we would love to introduce the LPA Futures 2019/ 2021!

Josh Adam Jones

As a social documentary photographer from Cheltenham, Josh Adam Jones’ practice seeks to communicate stories about often misrepresented places and those who live there. From the ageing Irish populations of UK towns and cities, to the expatriate communities of a lesser known Middle Eastern country, Josh hopes to facilitate conversations about identity, home and interculturalism through his work.

Spreading his time between working as a photographic assistant and on commissions, Josh also works on and disseminates self-funded projects through the means of publication. The British Journal of Photography, It’s Nice That and Then There Was Us have provided a continued platform for communicating his stories, both online and in print. Josh has recently been involved with a collaborative commission from the British Council & Ffotogallery: The Place I Call Home.

Gavin Li

Gavin was born in Blackpool and spent most of his life growing up in the seaside town. This has played an influence on his subject matter. He was exposed to a place built for leisure and entertainment where many people came and went. These surroundings have driven his curiosity and he became interested in the many walks of life where he explores the themes of identity.

Photography has always been a way for Gavin to connect with reality and a therapeutic way of observing the world. Gavin’s favourite part of taking someone’s portrait is listening to their stories and celebrating their individuality.

You may have seen one of Gavin’s portraits on the front cover on the Hoxton Mini Press publication of the Portrait of Britain 2018 winners and was also one of the winners of Portrait of Humanity 2019.

Andy Pilsbury

Andy’s image making began with a keen interest in illustration, but by circumstance he ended up studying in Visual Communication at Birmingham City University, followed by winning a couple of industry awards.

Andy would describe his work to be predominantly documentary and portrait based, exploring subculture and themes of identity through environments, space and people. He is currently working with the Jewellery Quarter Townscape Heritage project with Lottery Heritage funding to document the remaining heritage craft within the Quarter.

Alongside personal projects, Andy undertakes commissioned and assisting work. He has also worked for some years as a Technical Demonstrator at Birmingham City University, educating students in photography.

Frankie Turner

Skipping the option to take A-levels, Frankie went straight into studying photography full time at a young age in Brighton, and later went on to get her degree in Bournemouth.

With a clean and relaxed aesthetic, Frankie’s work focuses on the food itself. Utilising lighting, simple props, texture and form to bring objects to life, whether at a table or in more illustrative setting.

Always looking to collaborate on personal projects, Frankie is happiest when working on ideas and concepts with people who really love what they do. She stays at the forefront of the ever-evolving photographic and visual culture, whilst retaining a dedicated approach that stems from her experience of large print campaigns. She is able to keep the quality of these campaigns but apply it across the multitude of platforms she now finds herself shooting for.

Andrea Zvadova

Andrea is a freelance photographer born and raised in Slovakia, now based in London. Her photography focuses on beauty and portraiture.

She has an affinity for detail and balance within her practice, her close up study of human features transforms skin and hair into abstract landscapes and imaginary worlds. Andrea’s work marries great sensitivity and minimalism and it celebrates unusual beauty and diversity. This approach challenges the standard perceptions of the beauty industry.

Andrea holds many accolades including being one of the winners of the ‘Portrait of Britain’ awards in both 2017 and 2018, winner in the Body category of ‘International Photography Grant 2018’, a ‘Royal Photographic Society’ award 2017 finalist, and the winner of PDN’s ‘The Look’ 2017 Fine Art category. In April 2019 she also exhibited at ‘Month of Photography, Los Angeles’

Working with both digital and analogue photography Andrea also uses alternative analogue photography techniques.
